Allegheny County Jail sergeant accused of threatening to put drugs in girlfriend's food

PITTSBURGH — An Allegheny County Jail sergeant is accused of threatening to put drugs in his girlfriend's food if she pursued an assault charge against his estranged wife, Channel 11's new exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.

A protection from abuse order was sought this week against 41-year-old Kenneth Rubel by his girlfriend, Jayme Ayre, according to TribLIVE.

Rubel threatened to make trouble at Ayre’s job and put drugs in her food if she filed charges against his estranged wife for an incident at the Monkey Bar in Pleasant Hills on Sunday, according to a criminal complaint obtained by TribLIVE.

Ayre told police that while she and Rubel were at the Monkey Bar, Rubel’s estranged wife, 39-year-old Kelly Rubel, came in and grabbed her right arm and punched her in the face, TribLIVE reported.

Kelly Rubel, of Jefferson Hills, is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Rubel, of Baldwin Borough, is charged with witness intimidation. Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs told TribLIVE that he is suspended without pay from the jail, where he has worked since 2001.

Officials told TribLIVE that Ayre is also suspended without pay from her job as an administrative assistant with the county. The reason for her suspension is unclear. Downs called it a personnel matter.
