A new study finds some Americans are willing to go into debt to project a wealthy lifestyle.

According to a study released this week by the banking app Fintonic, one in eight Americans is willing to take on $1,000 or more in debt to depict an extravagant lifestyle.

One in ten Americans making $80,000 or more a year is willing to take on more than $5,000 in debt to portray their life as luxurious.

The study surveyed eleven-hundred American adults online and concluded: the more money one has, the deeper they're willing to delve into the red.

For instance, those making more than $80,000 were twice as likely to go into debt to project a luxury lifestyle.
