PITTSBURGH — Like many school districts in the area, North Hills leaders have a big decision to make as the start of school approaches. At Thursday night’s board meeting, the superintendent said if he were forced to make a decision right now, he would choose all virtual classes.
“Unless things change dramatically in Allegheny County and the numbers get significantly better, I’m going to recommend the virtual model,” Superintendent Pat Mannarino said.

Parents have two options for the kids this fall: They can take classes entirely online or they can go with whatever model the district decides.
The models for the district include:
- Traditional schooling: Students are physically in school five days each week
- Blended learning: Younger students are in school for half of each day because of spacing concerns
- Hybrid model: Students are in school two days per week and work online the other three days
If the students are in school buildings, they will still have wear masks and adhere to social distancing requirements.

“Going into my senior year, I don’t want to miss out on too much, so I would just rather go back and have things back to normal,” Roman Rennebeck said.
The final decision for the school plan will be announced at the board meeting Aug. 6.
