PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh tech company is hoping to partner with two local school districts to test its ultraviolet disinfection robots to fight the coronavirus.
Safe Space Technologies’ robots are equipped with vertical light rods that bathe the immediate area in UVC light, which is a type of ultraviolet light that is blocked by the Earth’s ozone layer, Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.
The company is talking with North Catholic High School and the Plum Borough School District about using its robots, according to TribLIVE.

“We have asked to ‘test drive’ the technology prior to a purchase to ensure that is a good fit for our needs,” Plum Superintendent Brendan Hyland told TribLIVE. “We were impressed with the technology, but we really wanted to see it in action before we made a final decision.”
Safe Space Technologies said the robots will cut down on labor and the use of harsh cleaning chemicals.
