UNIONTOWN, Pa. — Uniontown school leaders report the district will now participate in all fall sports after originally choosing to cancel the football and soccer seasons.
According to the district’s website, physicals were held for high school football, girls varsity soccer and boys varsity soccer on Saturday. All student-athletes had to show up at their specific times using the cafeteria entrance.
Junior high sports physicals will be held at a later date, according to school leaders.

The decision to fully participate in fall sports comes after athletes and families voiced their frustration at school leaders. Groups of people gathered at the high school days ago to urge Superintendent Charles Machesky to reconsider the decision.
“As I looked around, we were the only ones left. Everyone in the western part of the state seemed to be gravitating toward having the sports,” Machesky said.
The football and soccer teams will have to rebuild their schedules. Their original opponents found other teams to play when Uniontown first canceled its seasons three weeks ago.
Uniontown High School isn’t expected to play its first football game until Sept. 25. Under PIAA rules, teams must complete five days of heat acclimation and 10 additional practices before starting the season.
