PITTSBURGH — An armed burglary suspect arrested by police was wearing body armor.
Officers were called to Redlyn Street around 11:20 p.m. Monday for a report of a burglary in progress. Neighbors heard noises in a garage. One of the windows had been removed and was on the ground.
When officers entered the garage, they heard shuffling and then found a man hiding. Police said he was wearing body armor and had a knife on him.
The man was identified as James Gianella Jr., 28, of Carrick.
A K-9 officer found a gun in the cabinet near where Gianella was hiding, police said. That gun turned out to be stolen.
Gianella is charged with criminal trespass, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief and firearms not to be carried without a license.
He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail.
