PITTSBURGH — The National Labor Relations Board presented its case against HCL America Inc., a contractor at Google’s Bakery Square office, in regards to efforts to unionize and unfair labor practices during a hearing Monday.
The United Steelworkers union issued a complaint against the Google contractor in October 2020, but it just recently amended the complaint to bring up further issue with the company’s practices.
The first complaint claimed that HCL America Inc. violated the National Labor Relations Act by failing to backfill vacant bargaining unit positions and transferring bargaining unit work to nonunit employees. More specifically, the USW alleged that HCL sent the work to its faculty in Krakow, Poland.
