PITTSBURGH — A mobile unit will bring Covid-19 testing to underserved populations across Pennsylvania thanks to an effort cosponsored by Highmark Health.

The unit, known as Community-Accessible Testing & Education (CATE), has 30 stops planned in eastern and central Pennsylvania as well as Allegheny and Erie counties in western Pennsylvania, between now and the end of September. The mobile RV will provide free testing as well as education, with the results within two days from the state lab in Exton.

The $498,000 program was funded in part by a $331,000 grant from the health department’s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Enhancing Detection fund. It’s a partnership of Latino Connection, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Independence Blue Cross Foundation as well as Highmark.
