How a pair of bald eagles are impacting U.S. Steel’s Irvin plant

Two bald eagles returned to nest at United States Steel Corp.’s Irvin Plant along the Monongahela River for the second year in a row, according to U.S. Steel Communications Analyst Amanda Malkowski.

“We had the same two, mom and dad, last year, and they had a baby,” Malkowski said. “And this year they came back to the same area, and we believe they have another egg in the nest.”

Malkowski said the eagles do not impact U.S. Steel’s operations. However, she said workers at the plant adjusted some protocols to keep the bald eagles safe.
