PITTSBURGH — One of Pittsburgh’s biggest banks is closing four more local branches in mid-September. That brings the 2021 tally to six for KeyBank, as two previously announced consolidations will be completed this week.
Amanda Babst, regional retail leader, confirmed on Tuesday that customers have been informed that the sites in Penn Hills, East McKeesport, Allison Park and McKnight Road will be shuttered on Sept. 17.
Like most financial institutions, KeyBank said it is taking the measures because of how customers chose to do transactions and the shift to online and mobile accelerated since the Covid-19 pandemic erupted. Branch lobbies were closed for months except by appointment as a safety precaution and customers were encouraged to use drive-thrus and/or technology. Industrywide, there were 3,182 net closures across the country during the last 12 months, according to an analysis S&P Global Market Intelligence released on Tuesday.
