UPMC Children’s expands telemedicine capabilities

PITTSBURGH — One of the revelations of the Covid-19 pandemic has been the increased use of telemedicine across so much of health care. And UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is ramping that up even further with a new service that will allow emergency rooms far from the main hospital to receive doctors’ wisdom.

UPMC Children’s Hospital has started a new affiliate program that allows physicians treating pediatric ER patients, both at UPMC hospitals and elsewhere, to get consultations from pediatric emergency-room doctors around the clock via telemedicine.

“A physician provider can contact us, we can take a look at the child and provide professional emergency evaluations,” said Mark Sevco, president of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
