Walmart notifies state of expected layoffs from closing Waterworks store

PITTSBURGH — Walmart’s scheduled closing of its store at the Waterworks Shopping Center is expected to result in 129 jobs lost.

That’s according to a new WARN notice filed by the retailer with the state of Pennsylvania, detailed on the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry website.

The company has filed notice with the state after announcing on Monday the plan to close the store after nearly 20 years.

A spokeswoman for the company previously indicated employees of the store will have the chance to transfer to other Walmart locations, of which there are eight within 20 miles of the Waterworks location.
