Wealthiest communities: See which parts of the Pittsburgh metro have the highest median household incomes

PITTSBURGH — When it comes to the highest earners in the Pittsburgh metro, the communities along the western section of the Allegheny County-Butler County border are where the big money resides.

Seven of the 13 communities that had median annual household incomes that topped $100,000 were in northwest Allegheny and southwest Butler counties. They are Mars, Bradford Woods, Wexford, Gibsonia, Cranberry, Bairdford (population 471) and Sewickley.

Four such tony communities are in the South Hills — Presto, Venetia, Upper St. Clair and Mount Lebanon. Harrison City and tiny Ardara (population 295) in Westmoreland County also topped $100,000 in median income. Data is from 2018 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the most recent available, with communities established by the U.S. Census as ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTA), which are geographic representations of U.S. Postal Service ZIP Codes.
