Charges have been filed against a man for a fatal head-on crash early Saturday morning in East Pittsburgh, according to a criminal complaint obtained Sunday by Channel 11 News.
The crash was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday near the Westinghouse Bridge, killing 44-year-old Olin Simpson, of McKeesport.
Officials said Simpson was driving one of the vehicles that was involved. Two people in the other vehicle, the driver and a passenger, attempted to run from the scene after the crash, but were taken into custody and transported to a hospital.
According to the criminal complaint, the driver who tried to flee, 28-year-old Kevin Paul, smelled of alcohol and his eyes were “bloodshot and glassy.”
Paul faces a list of charges, including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and carrying a firearm without a license.
Channel 11's Mike Holden reported Saturday that charges are pending against Paul's passenger.
U.S. 30 was closed for several hours in both directions between Center Street and Clyde Avenue after the accident while emergency responders and investigators were at the scene.
