McCANDLESS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Cinemark opened its fifth cineplex in the Pittsburgh area on Friday and the company's director of marketing Bryan Jeffries expects the new 12-screen at McCandless Crossing to be a big success.
"A lot of people in the area have been waiting for a new theater for a long time," said Jeffries of the North Hills suburbs that nearby the new McCandless Crossings development in which the new cineplex is an anchor.
While the new 2,058-seat cineplex is largely comparable to the theater complex the company opened in the Monroeville Mall last year, Jeffries said there are some new features, including added speaker capabilities to complement its Extreme Digital technology.
But the biggest new additions for Cinemark at McCandless are its bar, offering a selection of beer, wine and frozen cocktails, as well as a new self-serve concession stand. Jeffries emphasized that the theater serves alcoholic beverages are an enhancement for moviegoers, and visitors aren't prone to hang out and drink in the lobby. "It's very rare that people come in and use this as a bar," he said.
