DARLINGTON TOWNSHIP. Pa. — A Beaver County man killed his wife before taking his own life Tuesday morning, Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz has learned.
Investigators told Marcinkiewicz that Duane Myers shot his wife, Sonya Myers, twice before turning the gun on himself inside their home in Darlington Township.
Police said they were called to the couple’s County Line Road home shortly before 11:30 a.m. to conduct a safety check after Duane Myers’ coworkers told his family that he had not shown up for work. Upon arrival, police found Duane Myers and Sonya Myers, both 45 years old, dead in the basement, according to the Beaver County District Attorney’s Office.
An autopsy determined that Sonya Myers’ death was likely followed by the death of Duane Myers. The findings of a preliminary criminal investigation were consistent with murder-suicide.
Gunshot residue was tested and confirmed that Duane Myers fired a handgun, the District Attorney’s Office said. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Officials said the couple’s three children, who are in their teens and early 20s, weren’t home at the time of their deaths.
