LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. — A pig died from a disease that can be spread to humans, and now, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is warning people ahead of the Pennsylvania State Farm Show.
According to WGAL, state officials said their investigation began when a pig in Lancaster County was reported to have died from Steptococcus Zooepidemicus, commonly called strep zoo.

State officials told WGAL there is no evidence to suggest there is a risk to humans at this point and there have been no reports of anyone becoming ill.
The Pennsylvania State Farm Show is scheduled to start next month, and officials are warning exhibitors to thoroughly wash their hands. They’re also reminding animal handlers to practice good biosecurity when moving animals and leaving barns.
