Fetus Found In High School Turns Out To Be Vegetable Matter

ALVERTON, Pa,None — Famed forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht has determined that a fetus found in a stairwell at Southmoreland High School was actually vegetable matter.

Police said a janitor found blood in the girl's bathroom on May 19. A short time later, what was believed to have been fetal matter was discovered in the stairwell.

Authorities first thought the remains were a 7- to 9-week-old fetus. However, Wecht determined it wasn't a fetus at all, Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLive reported.

"During the performance of her duties, (the janitor) was going around cleaning the building and she found a suspected piece of fetal matter in a stairwell that was in that same vicinity," said Trooper Steve Limani.

The woman said she was concerned after finding the blood in the rest room.
