Former day care employee accused of abusing infants appears in court

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — A former employee of a local day care center is appearing in court today.

Tiffany Williams is charged with two counts of aggravated assault stemming from her treatment of two infants while she worked at Tutor Time day care in Bethel Park in 2017.

A 7-month-old sustained a fractured skull, authorities said. The child’s parent noticed a soft spot on the baby’s head and took her to Children’s Hospital, the criminal complaint said.

Surveillance video showed Williams abusing the children in September 2017, according to the criminal complaint. But investigators didn’t see that video until nearly two years later.

It was provided by the attorney representing the infant’s parents in a civil lawsuit.

According to the criminal complaint, the video showed Williams throwing the 7-month-old to the ground repeatedly. It reads: “Williams is holding Jane Doe #1 in a chair then picks her up and forcibly puts her on her lap causing (her) to hit her head on Williams’ knee.”

Investigators said the video showed another infant being handled roughly by Williams.

The director of Tutor Time’s Bethel Park location tells Channel 11 the alleged assault happened before she began working there. She declined to comment further, but did confirm that Williams is no longer an employee at the day care.

Williams’ preliminary hearing was continued until next month.
