PITTSBURGH — One person is in custody in connection with a burglary attempt on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Police were called just after 11 p.m. Wednesday to 11th Street on a report of a burglary in progress.
According to investigators, the homeowners told officers that they were watching television when they heard a loud bang in a rear bedroom.
Tom Cusimano told Channel 11 News that he went to investigate the noise and encountered a man climbing through the bedroom window.
"When I looked over and saw him, I was like, ‘You can't be serious. This can't be happening,’” Cusimano said.
His roommate, Jeff Stange, was feet away playing a video game when he heard the commotion.
"I heard him yell my name, so I came out there and I heard him say, ‘Get the gun.’ At that point, I'm right there, and I see him on top of somebody. I couldn't see who it was,” Stange said.
Cusimano said he wrestled the would-be burglar to the floor while Stange retrieved the firearm and detained the would-be burglar until officers arrived.
Stange said he purchased the gun last month after their home was robbed while they were sleeping.
"I got to thinking if we ever got in that situation, it would help, but I never thought I would need to use it. I can honestly tell you that,” he said.
Police later identified the suspect as Quinn Rose, 21, of Wilkinsburg.
No one was injured.
Rose was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, charged with burglary.
