Huge water main break submerges cars, leaves hundreds without water

PITTSBURGH — Several cars were submerged in water early Friday due to a water main break in Banksville.

The break in a 20-inch line flooded the intersection of Potomac Avenue at about 3:30 a.m.

An auto repair shop, Banksville Autobody,  was among the four homes, three businesses and 15 cars that were damaged.

"Customers are calling me, seeing if their cars are OK," owner A.J. McQuillan said.

A sinkhole opened up on Potomac Avenue in an area where crews belive the break happened.

Pennsylvania American Water said repairs to the line could take 12 hours to complete. Nearly 100 people will be without water until those repairs are finished.

A water buffalo was brought to the area of High Oak and Potomac.

People were told to bring their own containers.
