JEANNETTE, Pa. — A police officer was charged after he allegedly helped a man get away from the house he had crashed into back in January.

Westmoreland County detectives charged a Jeannette police officer with hindering apprehension after he allegedly failed to report an accident and left the scene of the accident to drive the suspect home.

Back in January, a car driving down Hickory Street in Jeanette jumped the curb, went through a yard and hit a house.

But according to Police paperwork, the driver was nowhere to be found when the homeowner came outside.

Two officers that showed up at the scene realized the car belonged to Vincent Grimm II.

Grimm's registration was expired at the time and the officer was unable to find proof of insurance.

Detectives investigating the crash eventually interviewed Jeannette Police Officer David Johnston.

According to the affidavit , “He told detectives he was going to follow Grimm home and Grimm was way out in front of him.”

After Grimm crashed into the house, the affidavit says Johnston said “Grimm was all shook up and asked him to “just take me home”.”

He took Grimm to Welker Street where Johnston says Grimm jumped out of his car.

Both men are scheduled to be in court for a preliminary hearing on September 28th.
