A $1 million Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket was recently sold in Allegheny County.

The “$1 Million? Seriously” ticket was sold at Willy’s Beer & Beverage on Freeport Road in Cheswick. The store earns a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Channel 11 visited the small, family-run business on Monday.

The owner and manager told us that the big win was exciting. The winner is a regular customer who comes in to play on Thursdays.

She scratched off the winning ticket inside the business on June 22, they said.

“I was happy for her,” said owner Linda Wilson, describing the customer as a “very deserving person.”

Manager Barry Hughes told us that the winning ticket was actually the customer’s second purchase of the day.

“She played one, didn’t get it, came back in, said ‘Let’s try one more!’ And, there ya go!”

According to lottery officials, scratch-offs “are distributed at random, meaning the Pennsylvania Lottery and its retailers do not know where winning tickets will be sold. The Lottery learns where winning tickets are sold only after a prize has been claimed.”
