14-year-old girl shot, killed inside car in Duquesne

DUQUESNE, Pa. — A teen was fatally shot and killed inside a car in the city of Duquesne on Friday evening.

Allegheny County dispatchers confirm that police and medics were sent to the 700 block of Priscilla Avenue at around 5:13 p.m.

Authorities found a teen girl who had been shot, later identified as 14-year-old Lajaponis Roberts. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Roberts was a passenger inside of a burgundy Chevy Cruze when the shooting happened.

Roberts was an online student at Fox Chapel School District. The district said Roberts previously attended Dorseyville Middle School and Kerr Elementary School.

When students return to school on Tuesday, the district said counselors and psychologists will be available to students and staff members at the high school, and school counselors and other support staff will be available in all of our school buildings. The district is also encouraging parents and guardians to talk about the loss with their children.
