PITTSBURGH — A man is fighting for his life after being shot in broad daylight in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood late Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 5 p.m. along Frankstown Avenue, not far from the border of East Hills and Homewood.
Pittsburgh police said the victim was shot in the legs multiple times and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
What led up to the shooting is still unclear.
“It’s unnecessary violence. I have a 7-year-old child and I’m tired of the games that are being played with people’s lives,” said Mychal Watson, who lives in Homewood and works at the Cabaret Banquet Hall, just steps away from where the shooting happened.
Watson said he was in the car, on his way there, when the gunfire broke out.
“I saw two police vehicles zoom by me and my employer and then we came down to our establishment and we saw a gang of police, wondering what happened,” Watson said.
One witness told Channel 11 that he heard about a half-dozen gunshots and saw someone run off.
Watson only heard the final shot.
“I only heard that one, which tells me it was at the end of the situation,” he said.
Watson told Channel 11 he wants to see better from this part of the city.
“I’m tired of it,” he said. “I don’t want to lose my life and I don’t want my child losing her life because of someone else’s ignorance.”
Watson also had some strong words for whoever pulled the trigger.
“You do not need to be walking around causing violence. Period. It’s unacceptable. It doesn’t need to happen,” he said.
