FOREST HILLS, Pa. — A man was shot by an officer in Forest Hills Thursday night.
Allegheny County dispatch said the shooting happened in the 200 block of Glasgow Road at 9:24 p.m.
According to Allegheny County police, officers from multiple departments responded to the scene of a disturbance. When they arrived, they heard a gun being chambered and a shot fired.
Officers confronted a man, 48, with a gun outside of a house.
Around 10 minutes after police were called to the scene, an officer from the Churchill Police Department shot the man in the torso, police said. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
“This is a quiet neighborhood; we’ve lived here 30 years. This is the first time something like this has happened,” said Kristen Mehalik.
Mehalik saw the chaos across the street from her home Thursday night as police from multiple agencies covered the area.
“It was right around 9:30 p.m. we saw a bunch of cop cars going up, we came out. heard a couple gunshots and the cop started running up with their guns and that was about it was a pretty active scary situation,” Mehalik said.
County Police told Channel 11 they got a 911 call for a disturbance from inside the home and when police arrived there was a gunshot. Police said they found a 48-year-old man in the driveway outside that home, that’s when a Churchill officer shot him. He later died Friday morning.
Police said there are no new details as the investigation continues leaving Mehalik with many questions.
“Just what the heck happened, I mean was it something domestic, did this person belong in this neighborhood? Just a slue of questions, it’s just scary,” Mehalik said.
Channel 11 did reach out to Churchill Police to see if they had a statement or could give any information on where that officer is now, but did not hear back.
