Police arrest juvenile in Friday shooting of 13-year-old boy in Swissvale

SWISSVALE, Pa. — A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the Friday afternoon shooting of another 13-year-old boy, said Allegheny County police.

Police were called to the 7500 block of Short Street at 2:39 p.m. where first responders found a 13-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdominal area.

“We received a 911 call from a witness who provided us the information that he was in the street shot,” said Chief Ellis Watson of the Swissvale Police Department.

The teenager was transported to an area hospital where he was said to be in critical condition.

Through their investigation, authorities determined a 13-year-old boy was responsible for the shooting. Police have since filed charges of aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, recklessly endangering another person, and person not to possess a firearm against the teen.

Those charges have been filed in juvenile court.

Friday, Swissvale police and Allegheny County detectives were seen moving their investigation from the street where the boy was found to the inside of a home, not far from where dozens of people catch the bus.

“I could have been standing there if I wasn’t at work today. I hope the little boy makes it. I hope he makes it,” said Kathy Vlk of Swissvale.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Allegheny County Police at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
