PITTSBURGH — One year has passed since a Central Catholic student died in a shooting at the Haunted Hills Hayride in North Versailles.
Steven Eason was only 15 years old when he died. A year after his death, his friends and family got the community together to remember his life.
Eason’s family organized a basketball tournament in Larimer. The goal was to create a safe space for kids in the community in honor of Eason. The tournament was named in his honor.
Four youth teams competed in the tournament.
Anwan Wesley, one of the coaches at the event, said he hopes the event will bring attention to the unsolved murder.
“When this young man was murdered at the hayride, all those kids, somebody, should’ve came out and spoke up. The fact is he lost his life trying to help a friend,” said Wesley.
Friends and family hope that one day they will get justice.
