A local woman is just home from the trauma unit at Allegheny General Hospital after she was the victim of a violent carjacking.
Police say it happened around 3 a.m. on Broad Street in the city’s Garfield neighborhood while the 69-year-old victim was checking her email in her car. Police say two young men, 17 and 18, with a gun, violently pulled her from her car and threw her to the ground before taking off, running over her arm and wrist.
We talked to the victim, Barbara Lindsey as she arrived home from the hospital. Still in a gown, covered with blood, she showed us the gaping wound to her swollen hand.
She had this to say about the two teens charged with carjacking her at gunpoint and running from police.
“Drop dead,” Barbara Lindsey said to the suspects. “You’ll get yours. I’m a firm believer in karma.”
Barbara Lindsey is just one year shy of 70. She says the men picked the wrong woman.
“I have a taser,” Lindsey added. “I have two.”
Channel 11 asked if she planned to use it. She said:
“I did! I did. I clipped him right on the back of the hand.”
Police say the men took off in Lindsey’s brand-new SUV and refused to pull over for officers.
On East Liberty Boulevard in East Liberty, both suspects jumped out of the car and started running. Police were able to take one into custody quickly. Court documents say they found a gun on him, but the second suspect kept running. He was found about a quarter of a mile away at the intersection of Station Street and Centre Avenue, hiding in a bush.
Police say two young men are now at the Allegheny County Jail. Daniel Cain, 18, and Deron Cain-Devonport, 17, are charged in the carjacking.
Barbara Lindsey says after feeding her cat, Cricket, she plans to take a nice, long nap. She told us she’ll get through anything.
