Police chase ends after vehicle crashes into pole, business; 2 people injured

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Two people were injured when a vehicle went off the road, hitting a utility pole and then crashing into a business overnight in Washington. Channel 11 was told it was the result of a police chase.

Video shared with Channel 11 captures a police pursuit and an SUV slamming into a utility pole, breaking at its base and bringing down wires.

The crash occurred at McCarrell’s Insurance Agency and Tax Service, located under the Interstate 70 overpass.

Susan McCarrell Gleason is one of the owners of the business and got the call at about 1:30 Saturday morning.

“They were just pulling the car out from the building and it was really wrecked, especially the front end,” she said.

Two people in the vehicle were flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, according to a 911 dispatcher.

McCarrell Gleason said she talked to police at the scene, who told her an 18 year old and two juveniles were in the SUV.

The outside of the building is damaged — the walkway is in pieces, lumber is all over the ground, and the downspout is broken.

Inside, the floor was compromised, plus the wall was pushed into the workspace.

But the tax prep business opened as scheduled.

McCarrell Gleason said she heard the car was stolen. Washington police have not released any details.
