3rd Pittsburgh police officer fired after Jim Rogers’ death reinstated

PITTSBURGH — Another Pittsburgh police officer fired after the 2021 tasing death of Jim Rogers has been reinstated.

The City of Pittsburgh fired four officers after Rogers’ death, accusing them of excessive force and violating procedures.

This is the third officer to return to the force. The fourth is awaiting an arbitration hearing to get his job back as well.

Even before going to arbitration hearings, the city agreed to reinstate all three of the officers with backpay.

The City of Pittsburgh could have fought the firings.

It’s unclear why the city agreed to take the officers back, especially after paying Rogers’ family $8 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit.

The final fired officer, Keith Edmonds, who tased Rogers multiple times, is still awaiting a hearing to determine if he gets his job back.
