62nd Street Bridge reopens after shooting incident

PITTSBURGH — The 62nd Street Bridge was temporarily closed Friday morning after a police incident ended with a suspect fatally shooting himself.

Allegheny County homicide detectives were called by Sharpsburg police to assist with an investigation into shots fired along the 900 block of Penn Avenue after 3 a.m. It was determined to be a domestic dispute where a male fired at least one shot into a woman’s home. No one was injured in the shooting.

City of Pittsburgh police identified the suspect a short time later walking along the 62nd Street Bridge. When police arrived, the suspect fatally shot himself on the bridge, according to an Allegheny County police report.

The bridge reopened to traffic around 5:50 a.m.
