AAA hosts events to replace peeling license plates for free for Pennsylvania residents

Pennsylvania license plate rule Pennsylvania license plate rule

Several Pittsburgh-area events to replace peeling license plates for free will be hosted by AAA East Central.

In Pennsylvania, vehicle owners can be pulled over and fined up to $100 for having a license plate that is deemed illegible.

A registration plate is Illegible when one or more characters cannot be recognized from 50 feet, if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration, or loss of reflectivity, according to PennDOT. Motorists can request replacement plates when an authorized representative of PennDOT or law enforcement determines that a plate is illegible.

At AAA’s license plate events, officers will examine license plates and attendees can place orders for new ones.

The first event will be held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the AAA Pleasant Hills Branch Office, 9 Clairton Blvd., Pleasant Hills.
