Aliquippa football teams receives $250K from NFL, plans to build new stadium

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — The Aliquippa High School football team received a $250,000 grant from the NFL Foundation, and they plan to use the funds to build a new stadium.

According to our partners at TribLIVE.com, the school’s current stadium “The Pit” was built in the 1930s and has deteriorated in recent years.

The grants from the NFL Foundation total $6 million, and will go to 30 different cities across the country to create or refurbish football fields.

Aliquippa superintendent Phillip Woods hopes to solicit donations from additional organizations as well. The Trib also says that the school district secured $3.5 million in financing to make the construction project happen.

It’s been a good week for the Aliquippa football team, who just won their fight to stay in their current PIAA conference.

Work on the new stadium could begin in February or March according to the Trib.
