Allegheny County Executive Innamorato announces nominee for next jail warden

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato announced her nomination for the next jail warden.

On Wednesday, Innamorato nominated Trevor Wingard to serve as the next warden of the Allegheny County Jail (ACJ).

“We have been so impressed with the breadth of Mr. Wingard’s experience in working with an array of corrections facilities and his commitment to creating a safe environment for both staff and incarcerated individuals,” Innamorato said. “The County has made improvements in the last year at the ACJ, and we need a leader that can continue the positive momentum. Throughout his career, Mr. Wingard has shown he’s open to challenging the status quo and embracing change.  I’m pleased to nominate Mr. Wingard to serve as our next warden.”

Wingard has decades of experience in corrections, Innamorato says. Some of Wingard’s previous roles include the Deputy Secretary of the Western Region for the Pennsylvania State Department of Corrections, Superintendent of SCI-Somerset and SCI-Laurel Highlands, and the Interim Warden at the Allegheny County Jail.

Inamorato highlights Wingard’s experience in leadership transitions that resulted in improved safety, better culture and morale, improved healthcare delivery and the creation of nationally recognized reform programs.

“I’m honored to be nominated to serve as the next warden of the Allegheny County Jail. I’ve worked in and supervised minimum-, medium-, and maximum-security facilities, facilities of all sizes and ages, with male and female populations, and facilities with specialized programs,” Wingard said. “My experience has been defined by time with health care in facilities, with excellent staff mentorship and retention programs, with programming for incarcerated individuals that will help them succeed when they leave the facility, and I would bring all of those experiences to leading the ACJ. I look forward to working with the administration and the Jail Oversight Board to find a shared vision for progress at the jail so we can work in tandem to improve the experience for everyone who enters the doors of the ACJ.”

The Jail Oversight Board will consider Wingard’s nomination at its meeting on Thursday.
