Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald tests positive for COVID-19

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced on Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“I was notified late last night that I was exposed to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19. I took a rapid test that came back positive. I’m not experiencing any symptoms and am feeling fine.

“I have notified those I’ve been in close contact with as well as the officials at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh overseeing the vaccine trial I’ve been participating in. I will receive additional testing as part of the trial protocol, and I will follow the CDC guidelines for isolation and returning to the office. I am grateful for the protection of the vaccine and continue to encourage those who have not received it to do so.”

Fitzgerald’s announcement comes shortly after Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey announced he tested positive for COVID-19.

Fitzgerald and Gainey were both in Harrisburg this week with Governor Tom Wolf.

According to Gov. Wolf’s press secretary, he took a COVID-19 test out of caution, and it was negative.
