PITTSBURGH — Three people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision on the border of Pittsburgh’s New Homestead and Lincoln Place neighborhoods.

The accident happened at the intersection of Lebanon Road and Mifflin Road. At last check, Mifflin Road was still closed toward Mooney Road.

Allegheny County 911 call center told Channel 11 the accident was called in at 1:11 p.m.

Our crew at the scene said one of the cars involved was not at the scene.

Police said a man and woman were inside one of the cars and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police also said the sole occupant of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police believe one of the cars lost control on the icy roadway and veered into the opposing lane.

The Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
