4 juveniles arrested after man beaten during carjacking outside Pittsburgh Target

PITTSBURGH — Four juveniles have been arrested in connection with a carjacking Wednesday night that badly injured a man inside the parking garage of the East Liberty Target, police said Thursday morning.

Crime scene investigators scoured the store’s parking garage off Penn Avenue for evidence and interviewed witnesses after police said the man was beaten and carjacked around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Multiple people attacked the victim after he left the Target. Channel 11′s Amy Hudak learned he was taken to the hospital with a “significant wound to the back of the head.”

The victim told officers two of them stole his 2011 blue Jeep Patriot and the other two ran away.

Customers were surprised to see a crime scene at the store.

“It’s messed up. I wasn’t expecting it,” said Jeremiah Jones, a customer. “East Liberty is a calm neighborhood now. I know it used to have its bad stuff way back when. Other than that I haven’t really heard anything bad.”

Target officials released the following statement regarding this incident:

“At Target, the safety and security of our guests and team members is our top priority. Tonight, a guest was walking out to his car and was attacked in our parking lot. One of our team members, who was in the parking lot at the time, immediately called the Pittsburgh Police Department. We’ve provided law enforcement with security footage and information for use in their investigation, and we’re grateful for their quick arrival tonight. We’re sending our thoughts to the guest who was injured tonight.”

The juveniles who were arrested were taken to the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center.
