PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s skyline is taking new form.
Thursday, First National Bank celebrated the final beam being placed atop the 26-story FNB Financial Center in the Hill District.
Allegheny General Hospital is rolling out possible plans for expansion on the North Side.
Pittsburghers say they’re happy to see major hometown companies investing in their city.
“It’s a major plus. Definitely,” said North Side resident Vince Capellie.
“We live here, we walk here, we shop here, we do everything here and the more investment, the easier it is for people to live in a community, make use of their community, and support their community,” said Laura Morgan, who also lives on the North Side.
The proposed expansion at AGH is highlighted in the hospital’s Institutional Master Plan, which is set to be presented to the city planning commission next month, on June 13.
It calls for the addition of three new towers at the North Side facility — A 12-story addition at the corner of Sandusky Street and North Avenue, a 9-story tower at James Street and North Avenue, and an 8-story tower at Hemlock and James Streets.
“I think it’s fine. It’s a piece of the North Side, it’s been here a long time, and people need services. It’s fine by me,” said Morgan.
Dan Laurent, the Vice President of Corporate Communications for Allegheny Health Network explained the building proposal lays out potential plans which could be rolled out over the next ten years.
In a statement to 11 News Laurent said, “It is a comprehensive development plan that describes an institution’s existing facilities, long-range planning goals, and proposed projects that are being considered for the campus. … The projects outlined in the new AGH Institutional Master Plan are those we are considering.”
An official timeline for construction has not been announced, but according to AHN, the health system plans to make a formal announcement when the project details are finalized.
