PITTSBURGH — About 250 Allegheny Health Network employees and 123 Highmark Health employees will be losing their jobs, many due to the impacts of COVID-19.
The workforce reduction was announced Thursday afternoon.

The AHN jobs are primarily from the corporate and administrative groups, but will also include some clinical staff at community physician practices.
In the announcement, AHN explained how this is partially tied to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in a drop in patient volume and postponement of some elective surgeries.
For Highmark, 63 positions being eliminated are tied to an IT transition the company recently completed and 60 positions are tied to a drop in customers enrolled in the HMHS insurance program.
Highmark said unemployment caused by COVID-19 has caused the drop in enrolled customers.
Both organizations said the impacted employees will be offered severance and be able to extend their existing healthcare.
