Giant Eagle raising tobacco purchasing age to 21 effective immediately

PITTSBURGH — If you’re planning to purchase tobacco products at Giant Eagle, Market District or GetGo locations you should be prepared to prove that you’re 21 years old.

On Friday, the company announced that it is raising the purchase age for all tobacco products from 18 to 21 effective immediately.

Giant Eagle had already raised the age in Ohio and Maryland, both states where it was required by law. This new decision to change the age in all of the company’s stores is in response to FDA guidelines announced on Dec. 21.
