PITTSBURGH — Point Park University is working to provide its students and staff with food during the summer months.
After being closed, the Pioneer Pantry is back open to help those in need.
Boxes of meals will be served to the campus community.
Starting Wednesday, and every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon, anyone with university identification is eligible to pick up boxes of food at Village Park or inside Lawrence Hall if the weather is inclement.
To minimize contact, the boxes can’t be customized and are pre-packed with common staples.
Anyone coming to pick them up is asked to register and wear a mask. Volunteers working at the pantry will be wearing masks too and will also be properly sanitizing and distancing.
“We know that we had a certain number of students that took advantage of the pantry during the regular semester, but toward the end of the spring semester that number tripled and we know that as we go into the summer and the fall months people are still out of work and struggling, so we wanted to make sure we could do what we could to help them get food on the table,” said Heather Starr Fiedler, chair of the Department of Community Engagement.
You need to register in order to pick up food - so they know how many boxes to prepare - and you can do so HERE.
