Police: Man detained after shooting at suspect who stabbed a woman in Edgewood

PITTSBURGH — A woman was stabbed and the man who was with her was detained after shooting at the person who allegedly stabbed her.

Police said they received a call about a stabbing and shots fired around 3:25 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Braddock Avenue in Edgewood.

First responders found an adult woman stabbed in the shoulder.

According to police, she was stabbed during an altercation near the GetGo gas station.

Police said initial information indicated that a man, who was accompanying the woman, fired a shot at the stabbing suspect during the altercation.

The man who shot at the suspect was detained by police.

Allegheny County Police Department detectives are initiating the investigation and will present their findings to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to determine if and what charges are appropriate.

The stabbing victim was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
