PITTSBURGH — Amazon is making moves and looking to transform the 330,000 square-foot former Sears outlet in Lawrenceville.
Tucked away at 27 51st Street, the building is an industrial area and gated off to the general public.
Amazon plans to use the location for a new last-leg delivery station.
Officials said the station will expedite the delivery process and cut down on wait times for Pittsburgh customers.
This is crucial as demand continues to skyrocket during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, some Lawrenceville community members said they’re not exactly thrilled with the firm behind the development and the plan.
They’re worried about logistics, noise and losing nearby riverfront views.
“We are nervous about congestion and traffic, but also you know we don’t want to lose a lot of what we worked for with the developer to achieve in those original plans,” said Lauren Connelly, executive director of the Lawrenceville Corp.
Amazon is looking to open the space sometime next year.
