PITTSBURGH — It’s the giving season but The Salvation Army says donations to its Red Kettle campaign are still lagging.

Last week, the organization’s Western Pennsylvania division had only gathered around a third of the funds needed to reach its goal. Now, with only a week left in the fundraiser, donations amount to over $1.2 million, or 53% of the fundraising goal.

To help the campaign reach it’s goal and anonymous “angel donor” will match gifts given on Dec. 21 at several Salvation Army locations across Western Pennsylvania, up to $5,000. The locations where donations will be matched are: Bradford, Erie, Greenville, Latrobe, Mon Valley, New Kensington, Sharon, Steel Valley (Homestead), Uniontown and Warren.

“These last few days leading up to Christmas Eve are critical to ensuring The Salvation Army can continue its mission of serving families and individuals in need,” said Major Gregory Hartshorn, divisional commander for The Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania.

Donations are accepted through Christmas Eve. You can donate in person throughout Western Pennsylvania or online.

Local donations to the Red Kettle Campaign support the Salvation Army’s efforts to provide food, rent and utility assistance to those in need across 28 counties in Western Pennsylvania.
