Family, friends gather to remember 10-year-old boy who drowned in Ohio River

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Ten-year-old Thomas Jett was out with his friends Monday when he went into the Ohio River and drowned, but Thursday night his family and friends gathered to remember the joy he brought to their lives.

Thomas’ body was found Wednesday after a massive search by dozens of police officers, firefighters and other rescue workers who combed the area near the Ambridge Water Treatment Plant.

The group of friends Thomas was with ranged in age from 8 to 13 and included Thomas’ older brother who tried to rescue him.

“From the story that the brother said that his shoe came off in the water and started floating away and he tried to go after his shoe,” said Rob Gottschalk, chief of the Ambridge Fire Department.
