PITTSBURGH — The origin story of the long abandoned seven story structure at 129 McKean St. on an industrial stretch of the South Side was as obvious as it was irresistible for Anthony Mazzarini Jr.

“This was a whiskey distillery,” said Mazzarini, president and CEO of Big Spring Spirits, recalling its history as a one-time operation of the Joseph S. Finch Distillery, a major whiskey maker of its time. “That’s really what intrigued us to go out and find a partner who was a distiller.”

That partner was joined by a host of others in an ownership group representing professional backgrounds in construction, finance, real estate, plumbing as well as producing spirits to celebrate the groundbreaking of reestablishing the building into a distillery again.
