MONESSEN — Pennsylvania Game Commission officers were called to Monessen Tuesday after residents there spotted a 150-pound black bear roaming around the city.
Police Chief John Mandarino told our partners at the Valley Independent that they’re not sure if the bear is a cub or not. If it is, the mother bear could be lurking nearby.

The bear, which officials said doesn’t pose a threat to residents, was first spotted near Eastgate Manor and the city garage.
Channel 11 viewer Ashley Nicole Mcvicker sent in a picture showing the bear wandering around a parking lot near the Rite Aid in Monessen.
Monessen officials said incidents of bears wandering into the city limits happen more often than people think, and that the bears are attracted by garbage and other easy sources of food.
