SPRINGDALE, Pa. — The boiler house at the former Cheswick Power Station in Springdale will be torn down instead of imploded as originally planned.
The change in plans comes because neighbors said the demolition of two chimney stacks years ago damaged their property.

Now, the plan is to pull the building down with cables.
Several cuts will be made to the building ahead of time to make it easier. Several methods will be used to minimize dust as well, including washing down the building and waiting for the wind to shift.
“We’re going to do it efficiently and safely to minimize the effects to the community,” said Plant Manager Sam Miller.

Miller said the building will roll to a collapse, which should take about 30 seconds.
The demolition is slated to happen on March 1, weather pending.
