15-year-old East Allegheny High School student shot, killed in Wilmerding

A teenage boy was shot and killed late Tuesday in Wilmerding.

First responders were called to the 300 block of Patton Street around 11:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting. They found a juvenile male with a gunshot wound to the head, according to an Allegheny County police report.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner identified the teen as Dillian Shearer, 15, of Wilmerding.

East Allegheny School District acting Superintendent Joe DiLucente said in a letter to parents that Dillan was a student at East Allegheny High School.

“Our hearts are broken and we pray for the family and all affected by this act of violence,” DiLucente said.

DiLucente said there will be extra support from the North Versailles Police Department and district security to ensure student and staff safety. The district is also bringing in extra counselors and community groups to meet the additional needs of students and staff.

“We understand that this news will affect many more community members beyond those directly impacted. We encourage you to seek support as well,” DiLucente said.

DiLucente encourages parents and guardians to reach out about concerns or support needs for their children.

In a separate letter, DiLucente said after the district announced Dillan’s passing, several students reported a Snapchat post about an alleged school shooting threat targeting the district.

DiLucente said there is no indication the treat is credible and the North Versailles Police Department is actively investigating the rumor.

Anyone with information is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
